> What is
the name of the workshop and how do you describe it?
Quilting on
the Computer: EQ6 (Electric Quilt 6)
This
workshop will allow quilters to gain hands-on experience with this powerful
quilt designing software. In addition to
learning the basic functions of the program -- designing quilt bocks, placing
blocks in quilts, manipulating color and fabric, working with quilt layouts and
borders -- we will design several blocks and quilts. Quilters should come with a specific project
in mind that they would like to design, and we will draw it, and learn how to
convert those drawings into instructions for making the quilt.
> What
materials and equipment will attendees need to bring
All
participants will need a laptop PC computer with EQ6 pre-loaded and activated.
They must have a mouse on their computer as this program can be difficult to
manipulate with a touch pad. Each person should bring their own extension cord
to be sure they can reach plugs-ins. Participants must also have basic computer
experience and should be familiar with Windows based programs. Each person must have their own
computer. It is not possible for 2
people to share one computer, since this is a hands-on workshop. If individuals
wish to watch, as a means of evaluating the program before purchasing it, they
must still pay the workshop fee.
> What is
maximum enrollment?
I can easily
accomodate 10 students in this class. If
there are more than 15, I will not be able to provide individual instruction on
each person's projects.

> Will you share some biographical
information?I have been a quilter for 12 years, but have been teaching and
designing for the past 8 years. Not new
to sewing, I have been making clothes and home decor projects all my life. Professionally I have been a Theatrical Costume
and Set Designer in the Educational and Off Broadway theatre for 15 years, but
most recently I teach speech to college freshman in Lawrence, KS. A PHD in Speech and Theatre, I have taught
for 30 years, so it was natural to combine my love of teaching and quilting. While I still do custom bridal and formal
design and construction on occassion, I am focusing mostly on quilting and
designing. All of my quilt design work
is done on EQ6. I have taught many EQ
classes over the years, from beginner to advanced, lectured widely on computer
based quilt design, and continue to offer regular classes in EQ6 at my local
quilt shop. I am a member of the Kaw
Valley Quilter's Guild (Lawrence, KS) and Sunflower Piecemakers (Ottawa,
KS). My pattern design business --Morning
Glory Designs-- has started off well, and my first series of patterns, Charming
Botanicals, features table runners or small quilts with the flower of the month
in super easy fusible machine applique on one-patch backgrounds. Vivid colors, floral motifs, and easy
techniques are the hallmarks of this pattern line, and much of my design and
teaching.
I am married
(25 years) to a police detective and my son (23) graduated from college this
year and started his own career as a Field Engineer in the wind power
generating business. I have a big yellow
lab, Rockie, who is my constant companion, and 2 cats, Wilma and Betty, who
have provided me with much inspiration over the years.
